It's winter! (at time of writing at a least, and for those in the northern hemisphere) What a perfect time to get yourself something floral that requires can remind you of warmer times. Something really quite special. The Ibanez Jem 77FP represents the very first variation of the Ibanez Jem model introduced in the early 1988. This is a lovely example of the 77FP.
The beautifully retro design is actually real fabric based on Steve Vai’s classic curtains, pressed into the wood and lacquered. No easy feat when you consider the potential creasing that can occur working with fabric.
The JEM77 features a special floral pattern finish which is printed on cloth and glued to the body. The edges are then painted black and a thick clear coat is applied to the entire guitar. The idea for the fabric covered body came from Vai and the floral pattern was modelled after curtains in Vai's home.
The body of the JEM77 is basswood bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with fluorescent green vine inlays. Components include light pink DiMarzio pickups mounted in a clear pickguard with a pair of PAF Pro humbuckers flanking a custom JEM single-coil, a double locking tremolo bridge, pink top hat knobs and Gotoh tuning machines.
An opportunity to get a rare jem and a fantastic investment in an instrument that is only set to increase in value over time. We have not had many 77Fp's pass through us over the years but there has been a sudden change in the market for these beautiful guitars with very few coming up and its even rarer to see one in good condition. Stunning! Ibanez Jem 2001 77FP Floral Pattern Guitar
GUITAR CONDITION REPORT
I Had purchased this guitar in Approximately 2011 from a lady who's husband was the previous owner and sadly he had passed away, she wanted the guitar to go to a good home.
Ever since my ownership the guitar was always in a hardcase and it was only gigged with once. I never rehearsed with it or gigged with it after that due to the fact of the guitar being an art piece and extremely valuable I was worried about damage. Consequently it always remained at home safely in a case for the past 12 years.
Fit & Finish
The Finish overall is in very good condition. It does have some natural ageing and some belt rash on the back where the body meets. The headstock has a non original truss road cover but this can easily be replaced with a standard black. There is a minor mark on the headstock. Other than that it is flawless across the neck. There are a few chips to the paintwork which I've highlighted
Fret Board/ Fret Life
Plenty of life in the fretboard and frets no issues
Tremolo
Tremolo works perfectly without issue
Neck
Is in perfect condition no issue. Regarding tremolo lock on the headstock, see notes below.
Electronics
All fully functional
Bodywork/Paint
The body work and paintwork overall is in very good condition minus the aforementioned chips. There is some buckle rash on the rear that could be restored with a professional polish if needed.
Case
Original hardcase comes with this guitar as I purchased it from the previous owner. There is some aging to the case as expected with age as well as some light rusting to the locking clips which shut the case.
Notes
The only other thing of note in terms of accessories is the following. During a professional setup the tech accidentally misplaced one of the three metal brackets at the top of the neck tremolo system. Consequently I purchased a replacement tremolo system from ibanez directly and only replaced the one missing metal piece from the new pack leaving the three original in tact. The guitar comes with the original and new replacement system as an accessory with the guitar
