THE JEM77PMC
We are incredibly proud to present what can only be described as a once-in-a-generation Ibanez JEM. This is an original Ibanez JEM77PMC Purple Multi-Colour, produced during the legendary 1992 swirl era, and quite simply one of the finest surviving examples we have ever encountered.
This guitar is in virtually New Old Stock condition. Imagine you could take a time machine to 1992 and nab one of the most sough after jams ever produced and then leave it to mature in a case until today. A genuine time capsule back to the early 1990s. Purchased new by a collector, it has been kept in as-new condition throughout its life and played only a handful of times by a careful and respectful owner indoors and under controlled conditions. Full guitar condition report below
Sadly, the original owner passed away in 2025, and this guitar is now being offered as part of his estate to help support his family. We are honoured to play a small part in ensuring this extraordinary instrument is handled properly and passed on to its next custodian with the respect it deserves.
The PMC sits at the absolute summit of JEM collecting, with only 271 examples ever produced, making it the rarest swirl variant in existence. Each guitar was hand-swirled in Japan by ATD (About Time Designs), under the direction of Darren Johansen, meaning no two are ever alike. Most surviving examples have long since been played, faded, aged, or compromised. Finding one at all is difficult. Finding one in true collector-grade condition is almost unheard of.
This particular guitar presents in extraordinary, near time-capsule condition. It shows no scratches, no blemishes, and no meaningful signs of use. The swirl remains vivid, deep, and beautifully balanced, exactly as collectors hope but rarely see. This is the kind of condition that is unlikely to surface again.
This is not just a guitar. It is a reference piece.
A full, detailed condition report follows below, including notes provided directly by the original owner.

GUITAR CONDITION REPORT
Guitar HistoryThis Ibanez JEM77PMC was purchased new by its original owner during the 1992–1993 production period and was acquired specifically as a collector’s piece. From the outset, it was never intended to be a regularly played instrument and has spent the vast majority of its life stored carefully in its case.
The guitar was only removed occasionally and played perhaps a handful of times over its lifetime. It was kept away from direct light and environmental extremes, which is reflected clearly in both the condition of the finish and the vibrancy of the swirl. Following the passing of the original owner in 2025, the guitar is now being sold as part of his estate.
A unique point to note is that this guitar’s headstock is missing the green “JEM” decal. The Ibanez and JEM logos were applied as two separate factory decals, and after review by ourselves and independent verification from Rich at Ibanez Rules, there are no indications of refinishing or tampering. This appears consistent with a rare factory omission, and to our knowledge it may be the only documented JEM77PMC with this feature, making it a true one-of-a-kind example.
As part of this verification process, the neck has been removed and the neck heel and body pocket stamps have been photographed, further supporting originality and confirming that the neck and body are a genuine PMC pairing.
Fretboard & Fret LifeThe fretboard is in outstanding condition. The frets show virtually no wear and retain their original height, shape, and polish. There are no flat spots, divots, or areas of excessive wear, consistent with the guitar having seen only minimal playtime. From both a collector and player perspective, the fret life can reasonably be described as near new.
NeckThe original neck is straight and true, with no signs of warping or structural issues. The back of the neck is exceptionally clean, with no wear-through, dents, or marks. The neck has now been removed and re-fitted for verification, and the heel and pocket stamps have been documented. Please refer to the photographs provided.
Bodywork / PaintThis is where the guitar truly distinguishes itself. The Purple Multi-Colour swirl remains vivid, deep, and extremely well defined, with excellent colour separation and balance across both the front and rear of the body. There is no evidence of UV fade, yellowing, or dulling of the finish.
The clear coat presents exceptionally well, with only minimal handling marks visible under certain lighting angles, consistent with careful storage rather than use. This remains one of the cleanest PMC finishes we have encountered.
Important update: During the neck removal process for stamp verification, a small amount of lacquer chipped very slightly at the neck pocket edge. This is a cosmetic lacquer-only blemish in a very localised area, and it has been photographed clearly. It does not affect playability or structural integrity. While this type of lacquer chip is repairable by a professional, the guitar is being sold as seen, and buyers should review the images closely.
TremoloThe original tremolo unit is in excellent condition, showing no corrosion, pitting, or abnormal wear. All components appear clean and correct, and the system functions as intended. Given the age of the guitar, the condition of the tremolo is particularly noteworthy.
ElectronicsAll electronics are original and in perfect working order. Controls operate smoothly, with no crackle or noise. The pickups deliver the clear, articulate tones expected from this model. No modifications or alterations have been identified.
Back PlateThe back plate is in exceptional condition with almost no wear. If being hyper-critical, as the guitar is over three decades old there is light patina to the neck plate as shown, caused by oxidation over time and minor movement within the case.
CaseThe guitar is supplied with its original hard case, pink lined, vibrant and as striking as ever. The case remains in excellent overall condition, with only minor cosmetic blemishes consistent with careful storage over time. All latches, hinges, and the interior lining are fully functional and protective.
SummaryThis Ibanez JEM77PMC represents an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire a collector-grade example of one of the most desirable swirl-era JEMs ever produced. The combination of originality, provenance, and visual impact places this guitar firmly in reference-level territory. The factory-missing headstock “JEM” decal, alongside documented neck heel and pocket stamps, makes this a particularly unique and well-verified example. The only change from its previously flawless cosmetic condition is a small lacquer chip at the neck pocket incurred during verification, which has been fully documented and disclosed.
